What is the Technical Advisory Committee (TAC) and what does it do?

Presentation on the TAC from the National Conference: (PDF)

Here's the quick scoop:

The TAC liaison is the main point of contact between EWB-USA and your project. While EWB-USA tries to assign liaisons with relevant technical knowledge, they should be viewed more as administrative support than technical support for your project. This member of the TAC works with you to make sure you meet all of the EWB-USA deadlines and requirements, and helps you get approval for travel and technical designs. The TAC liaison is your champion at TAC meetings, so you need to make sure they know what is going on. They can also help you find a professional mentor, an engineer with expertise in a particular area for your project, or put you in contact with various companies who have agreed to either donate products, or help with logistics overseas. If you have any questions or problems with your project, the TAC liaison is your contact. You may also contact the project coordinator (Zeke Yewdall) with questions and project updates, however he is managing over 60 EWB projects, so individual attention may be less at times.

Another important point of contact for chapters working on projects is the EWB-USA treasurer . If you are applying for grants which require a 501(c)(3) status, these are processed through our office as applications from EWB-USA, with the proceeds earmarked for your chapter. EWB-USA takes care of all the accounting and IRS compliance for donations. In the future, when the funding for EWB-USA is more stable, EWB-USA also envisions giving matching funds or seed grants for chapters' projects. Chapters do not have to go through EWB-USA for financial matters; they can instead go through their University.

You are also encouraged to read chapter 5 of the sourcebook (on the downloads section of the website), and take a look at the new TAC section of the website (complete with a calendar of meeting dates and submission deadlines). If you have questions about any of this, or are still confused about anything after reading all of this, please email your liaison or Zeke Yewdall and EWB-USA will try to help.
